Find a new way through air

With a similar history to St. Lucia but remaining a French territory, this Department of France offers historic towns, plantations, rain forest, and some of the best shopping in the Caribbean.

A short 20 minute flight takes you to Martinique where your first stop is the pretty resort area of Trois Islets. After a light breakfast and a short ferry ride to Fort de France, the island's capital, it's off to see some of the sights of Martinique:

The Sacre-Coeur - a replica of the famous Sacred Heart basilica in Montmartre, Paris, with panoramic views over the capital; the beautiful Gardens of Balata; and the villages of Morne Rouge and St Pierre where you have time to explore the fascinating museum dedicated to the village that was devastated by the 1902 eruption of Mont Pele, Martinique's still-active volcano.

After a local Creole lunch, served at one of the island's old sugar estates, there is time for some souvenir shopping in the afternoon before heading back to the airport for your flight back to St Lucia.
